Digital Scholarship Training Program

We provide student training and professional development through our innovative Digital Scholarship Training Program (DSTP) and Graduate Internship Opportunity.

We provide student training and professional development through our innovative Digital Scholarship Training Program (DSTP).The Digital Scholarship Training Program (DSTP) presents an uncommon opportunity for graduate students to learn digital scholarship skills, theories, and methods relating to research and pedagogy.
Students selected for the program work regular shifts at the center, helping faculty, staff, and students with digital research and pedagogy-related questions. They are also paired with research projects in their area of interest and learn the necessary skills while gaining valuable experience in digital scholarship.
The program’s training and professional development aspects are designed to prepare all ECDS students to be successful in careers within, alongside, and beyond the academy through an array of opportunities such as:
  • Completing training modules in digital tools and methods
  • Work on ECDS projects together with staff and fellow students
  • Attending digital scholarship workshops and seminars
  • Training and teaching workshops
  • Creating training materials
  • Professional development seminars and career-coaching mentorship

Experiential learning has the potential to enhance graduate students’ transition into a wide range of careers. ECDS offers one-semester internship opportunities for graduate students, providing training to broaden their skills and expand their career options. Interns will receive training in digital tools and methods, work on digital scholarship projects together with ECDS staff and graduate students, and learn how interdisciplinary research centers operate on a daily basis.

Interested students should be prepared to commit to coming to ECDS for eight hours per week for the duration of one semester. Remote participation is not possible at this time.

The program is currently only open for students enrolled in a degree program from the Laney Graduate School since students will receive course credit for completing the internship through the “GRAD 705R: Graduate Internship Experience” class. Please refer to the information page from the Laney Graduate School for more details on the administrative process.

If you are interested in an internship with ECDS, please reach out to ECDS staff Alexander Cors at least two months before the beginning of the semester in which you would like to participate.
